On my 28th birthday, which also happens to be Christmas Eve, Darnell told me that he wanted to treat me to Sakura Japanese Steak House as a part of my birthday gift. My mother and niece would also be invited. After a very lovely and exciting dinner, Darnell mentioned that he had left something at his parents house, and wanted to go by and get it before heading home. He suggested that my mother follow us there, because his parents have the best outdoor Christmas lights and decorations in the area, and he knew that my niece would love go see them. We arrived at his parents home, and all went inside. While inside everyone was very relaxed. My neice sat down on the couch and watched a Christmas show that was on TV, while my mother talked with his parents. Darnell and I, being our normal selves, were cuddling up to each other, when Darnell decided to make this grand announcement that he loved me more than anything else in this world. Being that Darnell has such a boastful, yet playful personality, our parents paid him no mind. But when Darnell pulled out a ring from his pocket, went down on one knee, and asked me to marry me, everyone stopped. Phones were brought out for every to get a piece of this moment. I was so surprised and overwhelemed with emotions that I didnt realize that although I thought I had responded with “YES”, I hadn’t actually moved my mouth and no words had come out. I sobbed almost uncontrollably and finally said “YES”, and as Darnell slid the ring onto my finger, I felt like we were on top of the world. He stood, we kissed, and he held me close. I knew in that moment, I wanted to be no where else in this world than right there in his arms. Finally our journey to “Becoming One” had begun.
