Honestly it depends on who you ask. Dom says the first time she met Tyler she came skidding around the corner of the parking lot of Tyler's high school in her car. That is when she got out of the car and walked to the football field where she met Tyler for the first time coaching a high school Powder Puff practice. Tyler on the other hand has a different story. He claims that the first time he met Dom was at a friends house for a bon fire. Either way they found each other.
Some say it was the movies, bowling, or dinner. Honestly we don't know.
Tyler finally asked Dom to be his girlfriend on November 9, 2013....We think. Who really keeps track of this stuff?
There are many moments to choose from, the day he told me he got accepted to BSU and was leaving, the time where he had his famous fall, when I moved to Idaho, or when we started living together. Over the first few years of our relationship, Tyler and I went through some major life changes and grew together. Through all the growing pains, bad and good, I knew I didn't want to go through it all with anyone else but him. He is my person I am lucky to soon call my husband and partner in life. I can't wait to see what adventures are in store for us!
There are a couple of different times that I could say that I knew that she was "The One". The first one was right after the "cool-ness" of being accepted into Boise State had worn off, and I was beginning to realize that I would be moving away, but I had the most amazing girlfriend. We met at the high school (the same one where she claims to have met me for the first time), to talk through what our options were. I didn't think that it was fair for me to ask if she wanted to try the "long distance" thing, so I went there with full intentions of ending the relationship. Something inside of me kept me from doing it, to this day, I can't say for sure what it was, I think it might have been the fact that we had actually agreed to do the "long distance"! What I can say for sure, was that the decision to not end the relationship that night at the high school was the best decision I have ever made in my life. The other time, came a few months later. It was moving day. She made the trip with me and my family to move me into my dorms at Boise State. I vividly remember, driving in my pickup with my mom in the passenger seat, (Dom was riding with my dad for this portion of the trip), and we had just gone through Rome, Oregon, I looked to my mom and I told her, "She is the woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with". When mom asked me what about her made me think that, I remember saying, "She is the one person that I can laugh with, and feel completely comfortable, and at the same time cry with and feel completely comfortable. She is the only person that I can sit on the phone with for hours and hours, talking about complete non-sense, and still feel like we had a good conversation. And most of all, she is the reason I wake up with a smile, and go to sleep with the same smile." It was a culmination of both of these moments, that really stuck with me, and continues every day to remind me that Dominque is the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with.
5/29/2020 was the day Tyler proposed to Dom. For those of you that don't know the weekend before that was Memorial Day. Dom's parents had a typical Cook Family and Friends BBQ. Tyler had one too many beers and was showing/telling everyone of his plans to propose. Little did he know he wasn't being as secretive as he thought he was being. Dom being her very impatient and detective self asked Tyler about it a few days after. When he said no she made him PINKY PROMISE he wasn't lying. Then then the 29th comes and Dom's mom is pushing her to get her nails done. Not thinking anything of it Dom gets her nails done and goes home. Tyler was acting strange and started talking to Dom who wasn't paying attention because she thought he was mocking her suspicions from a few days prior...then Tyler got down on one knee. This is when she really started paying attention. Dom had never seen Tyler at a loss for words like he was that night. Of course She said yes and then proceeded to say, "it's about damn time! I feel like an asshole for not paying attention and BY THE WAY you broke a PINKY PROMISE". After he proposed we called all of our friends and family to tell them the exciting news while having a few drinks and eating pizza. It was the perfect evening.
Tyler and Dom have been with each other for 8 years. As you know they met through friends when they were younger. They experienced growing up together. They both learned how to become adults with one another by their sides. They had many "first" with each other. Moving away from home, buying a car, adopting a fur baby, purchasing a house, and learning what great responsibility and rewards come with all of these things. They are so incredibly lucky to have parents and grandparents to look up to throughout their relationship to show them what it takes to grow as a couple and give them great advice along the way. Their journey is certainly one of a kind but they wouldn't be where they are today without the love and support of their family and friends. Thank you for being a part of our journey and helping us start the next chapter of our lives as husband and wife.
