How we met

October 16, 2016

Dom and I met waiting in line to see Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren speak on the MSU campus in 2016. My grandma let me know about the event and I spontaneously decided to go after work. I didn’t have anyone to go with, just having moved to Denver, but I decided to go alone. I went straight after work, considering stopping to get dinner but wanting to get a good spot in line as it was first come first served. I had never been to the campus before so I was a little nervous but got more and more excited as the line started to form. As the line got longer, more press arrived, wanting to interview people. Having just gotten off of a full day of work as a receptionist dealing with people, I was praying that they didn’t talk to me, so I was very relieved when they stopped at a very cute boy a few people ahead of me in line. I was very intrigued by the thoughtful and intelligent answers he gave and scooted up a little closer in line. After standing for a while longer, the couple in front of us left in search of a spoon which left Dom and I next to each other in line. We got to talking and really hit it off. We kept chatting as the line moved into the auditorium. As the speeches began, I started to feel overwhelmed by the crowd, but I wanted to keep talking! Eventually, it became too much and I had to excuse myself to the edge of the crowd. After the speeches, the crowd started to disperse so I stood to the side and waited for that boy to make his way out of the auditorium. I very casually slipped back into the crowd so that Dom and I just happened to leave at the same time. We got to talking again and exchanged phone numbers. I offered to drive him home when I heard that he had to take the bus, but he insisted that it was too far out of my way. Little did we know that I would make that drive hundreds of times over the next few years!

The Plan

Thanks Covid!

Ever since first getting engaged in October 2019, we planned on the date 10/10/2020. It just is a once in a lifetime date! It’s written the same way in America and the UK, none of our friends and family can forget! Plus neither of us will ever have an excuse to forget our anniversary. Because it is Dom and Madi’s wedding, in true Dom and Madi fashion, we didn’t really get a quick start in planning. Anyone who knows us knows we are both down to the wire do-ers, “I work well under pressure” people, and generally Wild Cards. By time the reality that we are engaged, we are going to get married, we have to plan a wedding, sank in, the world started to lock down. Knowing we still wanted to keep our magic wedding date, we made the extremely difficult choice to completely cut down the guest list and move forward with a more intimate group of less than 25 people for the ceremony on 10/10/2020. As much as we wish everyone could be included on that day, we know that travel and large get togethers are not the best idea for and that this year has been challenging all around. We want our marriage to start out joyfully and for that reason we decided this will be the least stressful way of beginning our life together. That being said, we still have aspirations for a big blow out celebration once everything is more settled and we hope to see you there! (Our new dream is to have a huge celebration type fest with music, food trucks, dancing, drag shows/lip syncs, wrestling entrances, the whole 9 yards, hopefully in 2021!)

For all the days along the way
