Before moving to Laguna Beach and attending LBHS as a freshman, Dominic grew up in Yorba Linda, CA. During the summers, when he wasn't wakeboarding, catching fish, swimming or golfing in Lake Arrowhead, he'd spend time at his Uncle Jerry's house at Victoria Beach in Laguna. Just 0.3 miles away was Christianne's home, on the south end of Victoria Beach. Building sand castles, challenging big waves, and paying visits to the ocean "whirl pool" and castle on northside Victoria were some of her favorite ways to enjoy summer days. Despite their proximity to one another all those summers, they never met...at least not that we know of! This trend would continue on even after Dominic moved to Laguna Beach. Dominic and Christianne both attended Laguna Beach High School and though in the same grade, which only had 245 graduating students, the pair never met. Dominic participated in tennis and youth group while Christianne stayed busy with National Charity League, golf and track & field. Eventually they both headed out to different coasts for college to broaden their horizons. Dominic headed to University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and Christianne attended Babson College in Boston, MA. Both of their college experiences took them abroad. Dominic studied in Copenhagen, and Christianne studied in Barcelona, Malaysia and San Francisco for a semester. Fast forward to young adulthood where both Christianne and Dominic had their respective careers. After stints in Los Angeles, Boston and San Francisco, they would eventually settle somewhere more familiar. By the time the pair finally connected, Dominic was back living in Laguna Beach and Christianne had migrated down to San Diego the previous year after living in Laguna for a year. One weekend, Christianne came up to Laguna to grab dinner at Avila's El Ranchito with her roommate at the time. After dinner, they both headed over to a local spot, The Sandpiper...or as we all love to call it, the "Dirty Bird". Within minutes Christianne recognized Dominic and gave him a friendly "Hi!" They quickly connected, both with a feeling of "Koi No Yokan", defined as a feeling upon meeting someone that falling in love with them is inevitable. Dom shared that he'd been meaning to ask Christianne about the golf courses in San Diego because he would be moving there that next week. Great lead in there, Dom - Iooks like it paid off! In a moment of "Synchronicity", as Chuck Kinder says, the two planned for a dinner date at a speakeasy in San Diego...and afterwards, Dom proclaimed it was the "best date I've ever been on." The rest was history.
On September 1st, 2023, a day before Christianne's 30th birthday, Dominic proposed to Christianne at Arrowood Golf Course in Oceanside. Direct family and nearby golfers looked on as the two agreed to spend the rest of their lives together. The next day, the newly engaged pair celebrated with close friends at their home in Oceanside in what ended up being a birthday, housewarming and engagement party! Now, Dominic and Christianne are getting ready to celebrate this momentous next step with all of you, at a significant place for them, Lake Arrowhead! Dominic and Christianne quarantined in Dom's family's cabin for 6 weeks in 2020 and have spent countless times there since, enjoying lake days, snow days, golf, fishing and time with family, friends and dogs, Momo & Diego. Both the Kinder and Cancellieri families have spent several Thanksgivings and weekends there together as well. We can't think of a better place to celebrate! Thank you in advance for being a part of this special day. We can't wait!
