We briefly met as teens (he remembered, I didn't). More than a decade later, I saw him at Vagabond Kitchen & Tap House (a restaurant he used to work at). Me and a group of my girlfriends had gone there to grab a bite to eat after work. One of those girls included my cousin and Matron of Honor Megan Kelley. Danielle's Side: I noticed they knew each other through their interactions and asked "Who is that?" she replied, "That's Walter, you know him!" I replied "hmm I don't remember." she says "you've hung out with him at my house when we were kids." Walter's Side: One night while working at Vagabond, I saw the Pool After Dark cocktail servers come in. All who I've known from previous "Girls Nights" except one. This beautiful girl had seemed familiar but couldn't put a finger on where I knew her from. Megan walked in and instantly it came to me! That must be Megan's cousin Danielle! As I greeted them Megan was sure to introduce her, confirming that my thoughts were right! During this time we were both in relationships and didn't think much of it. Maybe a couple years had gone by and we both were single again and decided to join the dating app Tinder. When I saw that he super-liked me (he doesn't remember) I immediately swiped right unlocking the opportunity to message each other. We both wrote something along the lines of "fancy seeing you here", at this point I knew who he was and after chatting for a couple weeks he finally asked me on a date, it was a cold October night and he took me to a haunted house and the rest is history!
After about two years of dating, we had made plans to take Christmas card photos at Coppers Rock in West Virginia while taking a mini vacation to see a West Virginia football game (Danielle's alma mater & Walter's first college football game). Walter had previously asked me what was important to me in a proposal; did I want it to be just me and him, family, family and friends etc. My only requests were to either be just me and him or me and him plus a couple people, because lets be serious you need someone to capture the moment. I also wanted to be completely surprised (I loveeeeee surprises). It's difficult to get anything past me because I am known to be very meticulous especially when it comes to someones behavior or noticing something out of place etc. As we arrived to Cooper's Rock with a small group of our friends, we walked out to the breathtaking mountain scenery and began taking pictures. Then, one of my girlfriend's said "okay lets get some pictures of just Danielle facing the mountain" (I didn't think this was weird because we always take pictures of each other) without my knowledge this is when Walter had gotten down on one knee and I still had no clue. After much anticipation, according to Walter, I finally turned around and was one thousand percent shocked and speechless. I had obviously said "YES!!". He had pulled off, the most breathtaking proposal, I could have ever dreamed of. To make the proposal even more amazing, he had the ring made with his late mother's rings; knowing how special that is to him, means the world to me!
