It all began at the Attaway wedding in Lodi, CA. DJ was a tipsy groomsman and Michelle was a wedding guest in a purple dress. There was much conspiring between family and friends to make the connection happen since they were two single guests at the wedding. After several drinks were shared and dance-offs were had, DJ asked for "purple's" number and they went on their first date one week later.

Michelle was under the impression that they were taking a weekend trip to Carpinteria for DJ's birthday and stopping to stay for a night in Avila along the way. Michelle eagerly suggested taking DJ on one of her favorite hikes from college called Cerro Alto on their way to Avila. After a strenuous hike, DJ proposed at the peak and Michelle quickly said yes! They spent a fun night celebrating in Avila with dinner, champagne, and a lovely ocean-front room that DJ arranged. The next morning, they woke up with intentions to meet Nick and Katie in Carpinteria. Little did Michelle know, both of their families and her best friend were waiting in Carpinteria for a weekend-long beach celebration. So much thoughtful and loving scheming made for an epic surprise!
