How We Met

We met in 2005

We met when Cody and his mom came into my mother's restaurant for tacos. They became regulars at the restaurant, and Cody and I would eventually become classmates. We even attended 2008 Prom together as friends. In 2014, Cody would come in to La Casa for his favorite chicken tacos and decided to shoot his shot and asked me to dinner. We had our first date at Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River and it has been an adventure ever since.

The Proposal

11.07.21

Cody attempted three times to propose before the moment was the right time. Something to note: Cody has pet tarantula's, and there's a moment where I told him "No more spiders until there's a ring on my finger!" that's been a long running joke. The first time, due to confusion about the location, I caused us to be late for our time slot for the spider exhibit at the LA Natural History Museum, so we weren't able to go and had to skip ahead to our Big Bear getaway he had planned. The second attempt, Cody and I walked around Big Bear lake, but due to the drought there wasn't much of a lake, so Cody scrapped that plan. The third attempt was back at the History Museum. We attended the spider exhibit, again, but it panned out to be underwhelming and Cody thought it still didn't feel right. We moved on to an exhibit that was dedicated to the history of LA, and had an alter built representing all the neighborhoods and special places that make Los Angeles what it is. I turned to Cody and told him this is my home and all the things I love about LA. Cody was on his way to take a knee and express how it's become our home, but right before he could do it, someone walked in and interrupted. As we continued through the museum, Cody tried taking me back there to try again, but I questioned why would we do that, as we had already saw it. Needless to say, Cody went back to the drawing board. The Fourth and final attempt. Cody decided that we were going to check out the MOLAA (the Museum of Latin American Art) in Long Beach, CA, because he knew I grew up with a deep appreciation of art thanks to my mother's influence. The feature artist exhibit was Judith Baca, an artist whose work I've seen during my childhood. Towards the end of the exhibit, Cody felt it was now or never, dropped a knee, and asked me if I would be his wife. I immediately exclaimed "Yes!", and we went to celebrate the unforgettable moment. Cody got two more spiders after that day... We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Washington!
