It was the beautiful summer of 2006 at the Charles Davis Foundation, where Vincent and I met. We were both very young at the time, Vincent being thirteen, and I was twelve, and we could not fathom that this budding friendship would turn into a forever love. For Vincent, I was his "crush" until he learned about my two older brothers who attended the same camp, so being best friends was the safest decision for him! After meeting in summer camp, we became best friends that did everything together! We would eat lunch together, sit beside each other in class, ride the bus together, and even play dodgeball together! As years passed, we remained friends, though we lost contact with each other in high school, our bond remained the same. We went two whole years without speaking, but when we did get a chance to talk again, it was like that summer at camp back in 2006. We attended different schools during our high school years, so we did not see much of each, nor did we communicate often. The one time of year we could count on seeing each was during Tennessee State University's homecoming festivities. When we did see each other at these events, it was always like a breath of fresh air. For only one moment each year, when we saw each other, it felt like we were back at summer camp spending our days together. After Vincent's freshman year of college at Western Kentucky University, he sent a text message to a recent Salutatorian high school graduate saying, "Is this Diony'a ?" my response was," Who wants to know" from there our love story began. We made our relationship official on October 7, 2011, and eight years later, on October 5, 2019, Vincent asked me to be his wife. Since then, we have been planning our wedding, and September 19, 2020, will be a #LoveJonesAffair.
