How we met

10/3/2021

The internet is sometimes a wonderful place. Hunter had recently moved to the Dayton area. In a pandemic. Starting a new job. And then getting a house. In the wake of her amazing success in life, making big girl moves she decided it was time to bag a man. She went to the apps, as that’s really the only way to meet people when you are 1) in the middle of a pandemic and 2) a natural semi-recluse. She saw Jordan’s bumble profile and was delightfully refreshed that instead of a standard fish picture, he had a picture with a salamander (and he looked really cute doing it). Jordan thought he would die alone, in fact he was somewhat resigned to that. Then he went to a friends wedding and saw them totally in love and decided to give it one more shot before giving up. He also got on the apps. Scoured them. Looking high and low in search of a wife, alas no success until someone randomly swiped on a night in early September (y’all know who). They tried to plan a date to hike somewhere near Cedarville but precautions as a single woman in a new city made meeting a random man in the woods a little sketchy (refer to the bit about Hunter being a semi recluse 😂) plus her sweet sweet puppy was recovering from surgery and taking his sweet time. Then they decided to meet up at the Cincinnati natural history museum as Jordan, being the beautiful dinonerd he is, promised to give her a personalized tour of the museum. He met her outside as he was staring at the marble on the wall. They went inside and proceeded to lose track of time as he regaled her with information about paleo pathologies and sclerotic rings. They spent almost 2 hours there before meeting her best friend Emily at an Agave & Rye nearby. And that’s the story!!!!

The proposal

11/3/2022

So first additional back story: Hunter told Jordan that she wanted, nay, needed him to ask her to be his girlfriend for them to be official, none of wishy-washy, what-are-we? business. Additionally she refused to have a boyfriend that did not know her dog, as Mr. Finn is an important part of her life and an excellent judge of character. So he chose to give her a stegosaurus planter with an aloe plant and asked her to be his girlfriend with the perfect line “you’re Dino-mite would you be my girlfriend?” And so of course she said yes. That was their date, they celebrated each month (when they could). Fast forward to their first anniversary on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022. Hunter was fully under the impression that they would be going to a nice, albeit early, dinner to celebrate their anniversary, and completing a few errands on the way that they needed, return at a shop and getting pictures of one of the dinosaurs at the museum where they had their first date. She got dressed up without any prompting because she wanted to look nice for their dinner and was completely unaware that a ruse was in effect. They rushed to the museum because the were running late and walking down to the allosaurus where Hunter was fully focused on getting the pictures and the specimen ID and getting out to the dinner. She was trying to find it on the plaque and Jordan suggested looking in the skull and taking pictures. She had started looking when Jordan said from behind her, “maybe it’s back here”. Still thoroughly confused she turned around to Jordan on one knee with a quartz geode opened up with the most gorgeous blue topaz ring inside. Where he asked “Will you marry this paleontologist and person crazy about dinosaurs?” And when she had recovered from the shock she said yes! And put on the perfectly sized ring and then noted the photographer who had captured the moment that she hadn’t even seen coming down. And then because he’s the best and knows Hunter really well and how much she loves pictures and efficiency, he said he had booked the photographer to go an engagement shoot as well! So then they spent the next half hour taking pictures and smiling like crazy. And then had tacos at Agave & Rye
