Jewish Wedding Traditions

The Wedding Website of Dina Greenberg and Evan Kedjidjian
We’re so excited to celebrate with you! Our wedding will include some meaningful Jewish traditions. Here’s a glimpse at what to expect:
Question

The Ketubah

Answer

Before the ceremony, we will gather with close family to sign our ketubah. This ancient Jewish marriage contract provides an opportunity to put our promises to each other into writing, combining tradition, commitment, and the beginning of our life together.

Question

The Chuppah

Answer

The ceremony will take place beneath a chuppah, a canopy that symbolizes the home we will build together. Open on all sides, it represents love, protection, and the embrace of our community.

Question

Ring Exchange

Answer

In Jewish tradition, the ring is placed on the right index finger, as it is associated with strength and believed to have a direct connection to the heart. After exchanging rings and vows, we will move them to our left hands.

Question

Breaking the Glass

Answer

At the close of the ceremony, Evan will break a glass. This moment reminds us that life is fragile, love is precious, and even in times of joy, we honor life’s challenges. Immediately after, everyone will shout “Mazel Tov,” marking the start of the celebration.

Question

Dancing & The Hora

Answer

Get ready for music, laughter, and plenty of dancing. One of the highlights will be the hora, a traditional circle dance where everyone joins hands as we are lifted in chairs. This moment is where family and friends come together to literally lift us up in celebration of love, happiness, and community.
