Kap and I first met in 2015 at a Sunday Church Service. Another church service but for him, it was a new beginning. He had just moved to USA away from his family. As a church member, I greeted him and that was it. My first impression of him was that he’s a very tall man (above average for a Burmese) who spoke Burmese very well, a language that I’m fluent in. He was shy at-first but very bright, friendly and down to earth person amongst our friend circle. I acknowledged that but had no love interest in him. As time go by and by, we became more relaxed and close where I now consider him a family friend, a brother, a close friend. When I needed an assistant with cooking for events or a ride to the airports, he was a call away. When I needed someone to talk or discuss, he was all ears. Little by little, I’ve grown fond of him. To my surprise, I started trusting him. Seeing him getting along with my brothers, mother, and my father are my favorite sight. To me, that was very important. Many of my friends know that I am very forward person. With that being said, I’ve started noticing Kap’s interest in me in late 2018. After many kind gestures, I confronted and accepted his feelings and courtship in January 2019.
It was our 11th months so we went on our casual dinner date to my favorite go-to Tacos restaurant which I almost cancelled due to working long shift. BUT Kap insist that we go on a dinner date. I ordered my usual shrimp tacos with rice and beans. After a full stomach, we were paying when Kap needed a “bathroom break”. He came back and sat next to me at our booth, and said, “Boih, will you marry me?”. I was speechless. I was surprised. I was shaking. Then I said, “Wait, really? What? Really?” I came back to earth shortly after to the moment, to the man that is eagerly waiting for my answer. I said “YES!” I started shedding happy tears because I was surprised, I was excited, and most importantly, IT IS HAPPENING!!
