Looking for a scenic hike or drive in upstate New York? Or a glimpse at fossils telling the story of this landscape, dating back to 425 million years ago? Look no further than John Boyd Thacher State Park. Situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, Thatcher park is home to one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains.

Located at the southern end of the architecturally stunning Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza in Albany, the New York State Museum features several long term exhibitions such as the Birds of New York, the Adirondack Wilderness, and Ice Ages: How Ice Shaped the Land and Life in New York.
