we're getting married

Brooklyn Ramsey

Charlie Digalakis

October 18, 2025

Toronto, ON

It was 2014 in Waterloo…

We’ll never forget the night we first met. It was a Thursday in September 2014, and Charlie was fast asleep in his Waterloo apartment. He was feeling proud for once about being a responsible Laurier student and not going out on a Thursday night. Around 2 a.m., there was a knock on the door. Expecting a drunk friend, he opened it to find Brooklyn, a redheaded stranger nervously holding his linear algebra textbook. She had doodled a giant heart on the inside cover, complete with her name in the middle, not realizing whose book it was until some of Charlie’s friends told her to knock on his door and apologize. Half-asleep, Charlie muttered something like “that’s fine” and went back to bed. He probably seemed annoyed, but secretly, he was flattered. We didn’t really connect until a few weeks later at a Halloween party (photo evidence below) Brooklyn was a mermaid, Charlie was a magician, and the awkwardness of the textbook incident was still lingering. But after a second apology and some laughs, we hit it off right away. Life pulled us in different directions for a while, but years later, we reconnected - no costumes this time - and something just clicked. Our first proper date was on the patio at Bar Poet, splitting a pizza and laughing until our faces hurt. From a doodle in a textbook in 2014 to an engagement in 2024 and now, a wedding in 2025, we’ve come a long way. That funny little moment led to something real: not just love, but a best friendship, a partnership, and a future we can’t wait to keep building together.
