Diego and Mary officially met on August 27, 2021, at Dordt University’s block party at the start of Diego’s freshman year, and Mary’s sophomore year. However, that was technically not the first day they met. Diego and Mary met the first day that Diego arrived at Dordt. Diego had met some other international students once arriving at Dordt, and one of these people ended up being one of Mary’s roommates for that school year. Mary remembered seeing Diego approach the table and thought he had beautiful eyes. When each person at the table introduced themselves to each other, Mary changed her mind that Diego had the most beautiful and kind eyes she had ever seen. Mary’s new friends quickly became friends with Diego, but it was a couple weeks before Mary and Diego actually spent time together through their mutual friends. The block party was the first time that their friends happened to bring the two of them together, and it was the start of Mary and Diego. Mary and her friends were walking down the stairs to meet Diego and another friend, and when Mary and Diego made eye contact, there was a spark. Diego apparently was flirting with Mary all night, which Mary had been mostly oblivious to. Diego had never met anyone as kind as Mary before, so that’s why he kept trying to get to know her better all night. He liked Mary’s amazing sense of style and her beautiful wavy brunette hair. He couldn’t get his eyes off of hers, instantly being caught in her blue eyes. At the end of the night, Mary’s friend came rushing to ask Mary what she thought about Diego and said that he was interested. Mary only had eyes for Diego ever since. And Diego’s heart was set on her ever since. The two quickly became inseparable (as Mary and Diego’s families and close friends would tell you). Both Diego and Mary knew that they were meant for each other after just a few months. They knew God had brought them together for a reason. And the rest is history.
