Our story begins with a trip to the Dominican Republic in 2016 during undergrad at Worcester State University. We both have different recollections of our first impressions. Diego remembers a magical day when we got to the town Pedernales in the Dominican Republic and seeing a beautiful woman looking out at the ocean. He remembers learning during the trip about her uniqueness and toughness. While Aleta remembers the aloof kid who got yelled at by the flight attendants for getting out of his seat as the plane was taking off because he thought they were already flying. She hoped that it was not someone from her school, as he had clearly been at the bar before the flight. In Pedernales, we both bonded over jokes, bachata, and falling onto the concrete street, a foreshadowing of many of Aleta's usual trips and falls. When we got back home after the trip Diego asked Aleta out on their first date and we have been together ever since. Fast forward to 2023, seven years, 5 countries, 12 states, countless flights, 1 corgi, 1 cat with Valley Fever, and many years of schooling later. We have grown together, made mistakes together, and gone through so many challenges as individuals and as a couple. All the while learning that although life is not a Hallmark or Netflix movie - with someone owning a fixer upper hotel in the country side, or recently fired from some big corporate job, or was a secret royal with a secret twin (how many Christmas Princess Switch movies can they make?) - it has been an adventure worthy of a movie. After 4 years of long distance, we realized that no matter what, we end up coming back to each other, and no matter what happens our love keeps growing. We are very excited to share with you all our special story and day as we have this small gathering to celebrate us as a couple, and you all as our beloved family and friends.
