We were both attending the same church and small group in Lynchburg. Didier had seen Mikayla before and taken notice of her. In January of 2020, during small group, Didier and Mikayla prayed together and met officially for the first time. A few months later, Didier slid in the GroupMe DMs and tried to get to know Mikayla, but she did not know he was interested, and therefore stopped answering. On June 6th, 2020, our church was participating in a protest on behalf of the racial issues happening in America at the time. We ran into each other there and ended up marching together, as acquaintances. We found out that we were only living a few minutes from each other and the crazier part is that Mikayla's plans for the summer were to be everywhere else but Lynchburg, but they were all cancelled due to COVID, and found herself in Lynchburg for the summer. After talking for a few days: sharing funny memories, about our families, and our relationships with Jesus, it was clear that we connected and enjoyed time together. We ended up sharing our mutual interest in each other and we decided to continue to spend time getting to know each other. After two months of Mikayla not knowing if she wanted to date Didier or not, on August 12th, 2020 we officially began dating. After 10 months of dating, Didier proposed on June 6th, 2021. He had told Mikayla that they were attending one of his friends weddings in Lynchburg but when they arrived at the location, there was no wedding happening. Didier sang Mikayla a song he wrote, read a letter, got down on one knee, and asked Mikayla to be his wife. Mikayla said YES with tears in her eyes. Now, we are so excited to celebrate the beginning of our new journey, surrounded by our loved ones!
