Question

What is a Second Line?

Answer

Originating from 19th century African-American neighborhoods in New Orleans, second lines were and are a key part of funerals and celebrations. For weddings, it is a parade including a first line (wedding party and jazz band) and a second line (guests). A brass band plays, and wedding-goers march through the street! The groom and the bride march up front with decorated umbrellas, and everyone dances with handkerchiefs. We will provide your props, and please wear comfortable shoes! The walk will be about 20-30 minutes from church to reception.
