It all started back in 2017 on a softball field. Two strangers came together to play on a coed softball team. Kevin and Veronica both pretended they were there for the sport. If we’re honest, they were mostly there checking each other out. Nothing came of it at the time. Timing wasn’t timing, schedules weren’t schedulin’, and life kept lifin’. Three years later, in 2020, when the world shut down and social media became everyone’s favorite form of human contact, they reconnected. One message turned into another, and suddenly they were talking in a way that felt easy, fun, and kind of like, oh… this might be something. Shortly after reconnecting, they went on their first date in St. Augustine. From there, the days just kept getting better. On June 21st, Kevin asked Veronica to be his girlfriend; no take-backs! A few months later, in October 2020, Kevin was a groomsman at his friend’s wedding, and Veronica was his plus-one. Let’s just say she made quite the impression. They were sure to let him know. The next four years were filled with all the things that make them them: baseball games, NASCAR races, kayaking adventures, concerts, comedy shows, late-night meteor shower chasing, and long road trips powered by early-2000s pop hits; along with more laughs than they could count (usually thanks to Kevin’s wonderfully random thoughts). In June 2023, Kevin officially earned his place in Veronica’s family. While celebrating her cousin’s 50th birthday in Plant City, he met several of her relatives for the first time. After several tequila shots and plenty of family toasts, Kevin climbed onto a mechanical bull. Somewhere in the background of a video, you can hear someone proudly yelling, “He’s got a Mexican heart!” Safe to say, Kevin fit right in. Word of Kevin reached her family back home in Texas. They welcomed him with open arms, some beers, and lots of homemade Mexican food when they visited that following August. This past April, during Veronica’s birthday weekend in 2025, Kevin took her back to their favorite breakfast spot in St. Augustine; where so many little memories had been made. With the Vilano Bridge in the background, he proposed. Breakfast has officially never been the same. Now they’re planning a wedding with the same energy they bring to everything else: love, laughter, and teamwork that started on a softball field before they realized it was something real.
