Freedom Trail

Freedom Trail, Boston, MA

A 2.5-mile red-brick walking route through downtown Boston that connects many of the city's most important historic sites. It's one of the best ways to get a feel for the city if it's your first visit.

Newbury Street and Beacon Hill

Some of Boston's most popular neighborhoods for shopping, restaurants, and people-watching. Set among Back Bay's historic brownstones, it's a pleasant area to wander for an afternoon.

Fenway Park

The oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball and home of the Red Sox. The regular season ends in late September, but if they make the postseason, you may be able to catch a playoff game while you're in town.

Longfellow House–Washington's Headquarters

A historic stop in Cambridge that served as George Washington's headquarters during the Revolutionary War and later, home to American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. (Free)

Museum of Fine Arts

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

A museum unlike any other, housed in a Venetian-style palace surrounding a central courtyard. It is also the site of the famous unsolved art heist of 1990. (~$22/person)

The North End

Boston, MA

Boston's Italian neighborhood is worth visiting for the atmosphere alone. We recommend spending some time wandering the neighborhood and stopping wherever looks appealing. If you're looking for a specific recommendation, we've enjoyed Antico Forno.

An excellent museum in the heart of Harvard Square that is often less crowded than some of Boston's larger museums. (Free)

Harvard Museum of Natural History

A worthwhile stop if you're already exploring Harvard Square, with exhibits ranging from dinosaurs to the museum's famous Glass Flowers collection. (~$15/person)

Arnold Arboretum

A 281-acre preserve managed by Harvard. October is one of the best times of year to visit with the fall colors near their peak! (Free)
