Monterey airport of course is an option to fly into, but San Jose and San Francisco are great and affordable options. There are shuttles available that bring you straight to downtown Monterey or to the location of your choice. 

Lodging:
We suggest you book in Pacific Grove, Monterey or Seaside, but Carmel and Carmel- by- the Sea are options also just a bit futher! 
Avoid Salinas, though it looks close it can be challegening to get to and also you lose all the charm of the Monterey area.
