We’re getting married!

Aidan Zimmermann and Diane Youngstrom’s story began in 2019 at a rivalry basketball game between Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They were surrounded by friends and fellow fans abuzz with excitement and new beginnings. Somewhere in the middle of that lively atmosphere, they sparked a connection that would soon grow. What started as a friendship quickly grew into something more. By that summer, Aidan and Diane began dating, and from that point on, they’ve been inseparable. Through new adventures, challenges, and milestones, their relationship has continued to deepen for over seven years. After Diane graduated from UNC in 2021, they moved in to spend more time together and live closer to both their places of work in Durham. Diane completed a post-baccalaureate at the NIEHS and Aidan developed as a software engineer at Genesys in RTP. They worked hard and grew closer as they supported each other and succeeded together. They moved to Philadelphia in 2023, where Diane is pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania and Aidan is pursuing an online Master’s degree in Computer Science with a concentration in AI at Georgia Tech. They are building a life rooted in shared goals, mutual support, and plenty of laughter. On April 10 of last year at Keukenhof in Lisse, Aidan decided to draw on his familial roots and propose in the Netherlands surrounded by flowers. With one word they started the next chapter of their lives. From a chance meeting at a basketball game to a partnership built on friendship, mutual respect, and love, their journey has led them here—and they couldn’t be more excited for what comes next!
