How We Became Us!

Her Story - Tyler and I always knew each other because we had similar friends. I always knew of him and who he was, but never really got to know him because he was more quiet and shy. I really got to know his personality when we all went to a holiday event in Nashua, NH. As we were walking up and down Main St. looking at all the Christmas decorations and hearing the music I came across a window display filled with lights. Anyone who knows me knows I love Christmas lights so I stopped and asked Tyler if he could take a picture of me in front of the window. He says sure as he takes my phone, fixes his hair, then comes up next to me and extends his hand to take a selfie. I just laughed and we caught up with our friends. It was such a simple and perfect moment that was not meant to happen, but I am so glad it did. The next thing I knew he was messaging me on the weekends to come over to his parties until he finally asked me on a date. We went for Mexican at a local restaurant called Tequilas and had an amazing night. To this day that restaurant is a place we celebrate anniversaries and special moments. The Holiday Stroll in 2017 was the best thing to have happened to me...until August 14th, 2021, when my best friend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. As they say, the rest is history. I like to think we met at the exact right time and that is the reason we are where we are now. We were ready for each other, ready to grow together and make a life with one another. Two dogs, one cat and many memories later, here we are. This is us.

The Proposal

His Story - We arrived in New York City! My plan was to take Diana to see the The Friends Experience (A homage/replica of the show Friends) I am a big fan of Friends but Diana is a Mega fan. My plan was to ask her in a similar way that Chandler and Monica proposed in the apartment. There was this one particular spot where it was a complete replica of the apartment in the show. This was the spot. They had us in groups to not overcrowd the area once you got inside, and once in I started scanning the room for the right spot. Only thing was there were so many people, it wasn’t intimate as I was hoping. I hesitated, thinking this might be my only opportunity and I have been planning this out for months. While moving to the kitchen area, it was even more crowded than before and after a few photos, it started to not feel right so we left to see the rest. I was thinking maybe they’ll be another more intimate spot that would be better anyways. After The Friends Experience our next plan was to go to Central Park. One of Diana’s favorite movies, Elf had a scene there along with many others and thought maybe this could be the spot. There was a Castle in the middle of the park that had a lookout tower, I thought oh this could be a perfect spot. So we set off on foot, but had no idea how big the park really was, and the humidity was more concentrated especially in the summer. I kept telling her how much it would be worth it, the view will be amazing, and it’s a historical Castle! (Maybe the last part was was more of a me thing) We were close, first we had to go over the bridge but before getting there we walked along this large patio area with a large fountain in the middle and a river along side where a guitarist playing Somewhere over the Rainbow. Walking over the bridge was a cool experience because it has been the scene of many movies, but it was crowded and didn’t feel like the right area. When we finally got to the castle and walked inside to the tower….it was gated off due to Covid…another plan fell through and at this point I could tell Diana was ready to start heading back, we were both exhausted. We started to head back, and then the idea pops in my head. The guitarist playing that song earlier by the fountain! It was a beautiful area and while we walked through earlier, while the guitarist was playing that song it felt right, it felt perfect, looking at her knowing she is the one. After a little walk we came up to the area, but there was no music…..I thought again, another plan falling through, but even though there was no music I still wanted to go through with it. I told Diana that we should get a closer look at the fountain and as we walked over I noticed the Guitarist taking a break. I told Diana that I loved that song he played earlier but wanted to hear the whole thing this time, maybe he’ll play again. Only thing is, I wanted to tip this guy well and I only had a few ones left in my wallet. I had to turn to Diana for the extra cash, she definitely thought it was odd I was giving him so much, but before she could question it I ran over to him. I told him what I was going to do and if he could play that song he played earlier. I walked back over to Diana by the Fountain. The song started, I waited for the lyrics, distracted Diana to turn around got down on one knee and once she saw me I asked the question I have been anticipating all day and thankfully she said YES!
