If you plan to explore this site amongst yourselves, you will need a ticket to visit the Acropolis, which can be purchased online or at the site itself. If you are interested in walking tours, we are sharing one with you here. This tour is led by a professional guide which guarantees entry to the Acropolis and many other landmarks. During this tour, you will be skipping all of the lines. If you have the time, we recommend this activity as it is very nice to have someone walk you through history while providing context of what you are experiencing.
The oldest and one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Athens. Home to incredible restaurants and an amazing shopping district.
The Changing of the Guard is a ceremony that takes place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier located off Syntagma Square. The ceremony is free to watch and doesn't require tickets, lasting between 5-10 minutes. It takes place every hour 24/7, and involves two incoming and two outgoing sentries supervised by a Corporal of the Change. The Grand Change of the Guard takes place at 11am on Sunday mornings.
Alongside the Palaio Faliro neighborhood is this wonderful marina lined with yachts and boats from around the world. You can walk alongside the water which is home to several restaurants while taking in the beauty of the bay in front of you.
Located within our favorite neighborhood, Lake Vouliagmeni is a beautiful natural lake overlooked by a stunning cliffside. During the day, tickets need to be purchased to enter the lake and the main deck is at a first-come first-served basis. You also have the option of reserving other lounging in advance via their website. There is a plethora of lounging options as well as an accompanying restaurant should you want to enjoy lunch alongside the lake. In the evening, it turns into a private and beautiful dinner experience as well!
Also in Vouliagmeni is one of our absolute favorite beach clubs alongside the Athens coast. Zen Beach has beautiful, shallow waters and wonderful food and service. They offer food and beverage services to your sun beds or you can sit at their many tables located in and around their restaurant. The beach is more private and the sun beds are for purchase with reasonable pricing.
If you are in Athens for an extended time and want to get a taste of the islands, you can easily book a morning venture from Piraeus, the port of Athens. Tickets can be purchased in person or online for one of the many ferries to nearby islands. For online purchases, we like to utilize Ferryhopper, linked below. Some noticeably beautiful islands that are just a few hours or less by ferry are Hydra, Spetses, Poros, and Aegina. Consider spending a night on an island or simply book tickets for same-day morning departure and evening return. If you want to see multiple islands in a day and don't mind spending just a few hours on each, then an island tour excursion may be the option you are looking for. We recommend researching a bit of each island so you can decide which one has everything you are looking for!
Greece's coastline along the Athenian Riviera is dotted with lovely beaches. Some have beach clubs and for those that don't, simply go and lay out on the sand while soaking up some sun. Some iconic beaches that you could check out are Zen Beach, Astir Beach, Glyfada Beach, and Kalamaki Beach. We recommend looking into each to see which suits you best!
