How we met

Highschool sweethearts

This love story began at a high school gym back in 1995. Andres and Diana, both 15 years old were freshmen at Langham Creek High School. An outgoing Andres met the new "Colombian" girl who had just arrived, and the not- so glamorous love story began. Andres asked Diana to be his girlfriend only a week after meeting her, which she assertively said "no." Consequently, the one week friendship turned into complete apathy. Diana and Andres moved on with their lives, but in the fall of that same year, they reunited, settled their differences and began a close friendship. They spend all their time together as "Friends" and by the end of the year, they were dating. They became known as the "Love bugs" as they were inseparable. At the end of their senior year, Andres decided he would join the Army and encouraged Diana to do the same. They graduated at seventeen and two months later Andres left for Army boot camp and by August Diana was heading for boot camp too.

The Proposal

Will you marry me?

With both of them in basic training, they could not talk to each other. Their communication was solely by mailed letters. One day, as Diana was standing in formation waiting for the drill sergeant to call names for letter distribution she received a letter, but little did she know this one letter would change her life. In it, her high school sweetheart asked if she would marry him and without hesitation, she responded with a firm “Yes!” and sent the letter. You know how men and women think differently? In her mind, when she said "Yes" to marrying him, she meant some day in the future, but in his mind it meant ASAP. Needless to say, a couple of months later, everything had been arranged for the wedding by Andres and mother-in-law to be. They were married on November 8, 1997 at a musty, old court house in Houston, TX when Andres was in route to his first duty station and Diana was completing medical training in San Antonio; the next day they each went their separate ways back to training. Because of their military service and other unfortunate events, they were never able to have a formal wedding. However, in 2019 Diana randomly applied to a contest offering an all expense wedding for heroes honoring military members . Diana's essay was selected and after one month of voting, they won the wedding of their dreams sponsored by the Desmond Hotel in Malvern, PA. This year they will renew their vows and complete 24 years of marriage and being together for 26. This wedding is more than a dream come true, it is a promise of commitment and a covenant to a forever love despite the adversities in the journey. They want to share this special moment with special people who have been part of this 26 year love story in the making.
