Kayla and Dhruv first met during their freshman year of college at WashU in St. Louis. They both lived in the same freshman dorm, Rutledge, and formed close friendships with their floor-mates. They remained friends throughout college, going on Spring Break to Miami with friends, attending Kappa Delta formals, and making other memories throughout their 4 years. Senior year, they gave dating a try but decided to remain friends. They stayed in touch after college even after going their separate ways- Kayla to Kentucky to start med school and Dhruv to New York to start his job at Morgan Stanley. Sometime during late 2019, a coin toss decided their meet-up destination as New York. An incredible trip to NYC including a New Year's Eve Strokes concert sealed the deal and they quickly decided to date. They successfully navigated their relationship despite the long distance, a pandemic, and insanely busy work schedules. During her last year of med school, Kayla matched at University of Florida for her Ophthalmology Residency. Dhruv took a huge leap of faith and switched jobs in order to move to Gainesville with Kayla. And there, they have had an amazing life together! In November 2024, Dhruv proposed to Kayla on Captiva Island, Florida, surrounded by family and friends, and it was the easiest YES! They have really loved their time in Florida as it has been some of their most formative years both personally and professionally. Soon, their next chapter will take them to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for Kayla's fellowship.
