It was an early morning, ASUs spick and span on the way to Advanced individual Training in the Tucson,AZ airport. We stopped to get food and I noticed this black female sitting with her bags lonely like there wasn’t anyone else there to talk to, just sitting there as the other guys from my battery, Carter, Lewis and I were getting food. We all decided to stick together and leave together because I guess we were all battles hooah. I saw her small in stature but full of strength throw her green duffles over her shoulder and start walking no help no nothing and she didn’t say a word to anyone. I wasn’t going to say anything to her but I just admired her from afar hoping I would see her again. The weekend passed and we met again to in-process onto the base. My Drill SGT asked me where I was from and I said NY, she then asked me what part and I said Brooklyn and she said me too. Later on in this I walked back up to her and asked for her number saying "we’re black we gotta be friends and all" but I knew I came to be more than friends and she quickly realized later that day. Looking at her now I still see that same strong private holding a green duffle on her back and one in each arm because that was the moment I knew I wanted to be with this girl forever. -Lancelot Harris
