We officially met through the dating app, Hinge. We started talking sometime around the beginning of September 2018. Becca had been using the dating app on and off for quite a few months at that point. Steven had recently moved back to the Chicagoland area and started talking to Becca within the first three days on the app! (He liked her first) Our first date was at County Line Orchard in Hobart, IN. Becca lived in Dyer, IN at the time and Steven lived in Wheaton, IL. So Becca was impressed when Steven drove all the way out by her for their first date. We spent four hours at the apple orchard, talking and getting to know one another. While Becca wasn't quite sure of her feelings for Steven, he was very ready to see her again. We continued seeing each other and eventually started dating ("officially") in November of 2018.
The proposal didn't exactly go the way that I (Steven) had planned. I wanted to ask Becca to marry me during our vacation in Punta Cana. After a couple of narrow escapes before the trip where she almost found the ring, I had managed to get the ring down to the resort we were staying on. I wanted to ask her either on the beach, or maybe during a sunset, but really didn't have too much of a plan other than asking her on the first night or two of the trip. What I didn't plan on was upsetting her as I planned to ask her to marry me, which is exactly what I did as we sat waiting for our dinner that evening. In my effort to try to surprise her at least a little bit, I had told her that I had not yet talked to her parents about the proposal, which was something that absolutely had to happen pre-proposal. She did not take that well to say the least, immediately downing the rest of her wine. I knew I was in trouble so I guided her to a nearby table and chairs so I could try to restore order. I tried to then drop several hints that I had indeed talked to her parents and brought a ring with me to Punta Cana but she was being stubborn and refused to acknowledge what was happening. So finally I dropped to a knee next to the pool and pulled out the ring, at which point she became an angry, emotional mess. She doesn't remember anything I said but she did agree to marry me so all is well that ends well. The following night Steven took me (Becca) back to that same spot and re-proposed to me. Thinking this time I would be able to focus on what he was saying and remember it. He was right and I remember the second proposal. And yes, I was emotional all over again.
