On May 18, 2025, the love of my life surprised me with forever.
On November 10, 2015, Shonda Rhimes released a book titled, “Year of Yes”. In this book, Shonda Rhimes wrote about how saying YES changed her life. I decided, after reading the book, that I would try a year of yes as well. Dewayne and I met March 22, 2016. I remember it like it was yesterday. Dewayne pulled into the Wells Fargo drive-thru in lane 2 as I was headed out of the drive-thru room. He caught my attention immediately. I forgot my task and became sidetracked. I nearly pushed Jasmine aside to switch the microphone on. Jasmine was the teller who was assisting Dewayne and a close friend of mine. I switched the microphone on and asked how his day was going. He stated that he just got off work and he was tired and ready to go home. We made small talk while I was contemplating if I should write my number on his receipt or not. I chickened out and decided not to. I decided I would look him up on Facebook and send him a friend request. We all have that one friend that can find someone with their first name alone. Jasmine is that friend. Once we located his profile, I chickened out again and decided I wasn’t going to send the friend request. Jasmine took my phone, called me scary, and sent the friend request. Thank God for Jasmine! He asked me to go on a date soon after. Since it was my “Year of Yes”, I said yes! We had our first date at DePalmas Italian Cafe on a Sunday after church. We sat outside and talked for hours. Neither of us wanted the date to end. Soon after, we made it official and have been inseparable since the day we met. On May 18, 2025, I said YES to forever!
It all started on March 22, 2016. I was getting off work and needed to go by Wells Fargo. I was tired so I didn’t feel like going to the Northport branch I usually went to. I pulled up in the drive-through and all of a sudden the teller started asking a lot of questions and making small talk. In my mind I’m thinking this lady talks a lot. I sent the withdrawal slip back and when I looked up she was looking at me. She tried to throw her head down to play it off and that’s when I knew this woman was flirting. After I left, I realize I had Facebook friend request. I looked at her profile and kept thinking she looks familiar. I remembered that pretty smile. I sent a message and said, “I think I know you. Are you the lady at Wells Fargo?” She said, “I am the lady at Wells Fargo!” We messaged for a while before I called my friend Kevin and told him, “I just pulled a 26 year old. I still got it!”
