DeWayne and Damika’s story began on September 8, 2022—a day that started with travel frustrations but ended with destiny at work. Damika had just missed her non-rev flight to Jamaica for her birthday. Frustrated and ready to give up on her trip altogether, she considered flying back to Memphis instead of celebrating in Montego Bay. That’s when fate stepped in—disguised as a Delta agent named DeWayne. Noticing her dilemma, DeWayne kindly stepped in to help. He explained that if Damika stayed overnight in Atlanta, she would have a seat to Jamaica on a flight the very next morning. Relieved by his calm guidance, she followed his advice and made it to Montego Bay the next day, after all, for her birthday celebration. But their story didn’t end there. DeWayne, who had been working that day, decided to take a more thoughtful approach. An hour after their encounter, he sent Damika an email that read: “I will be in Memphis next week and I know your birthday will be over, but I’d love to have a drink with you to celebrate… If you’ve got a man, I’ll understand. My name is DeWayne.” Caught off guard but flattered, Damika blushed and replied simply: “I’ll be waiting on it.” She sent him her phone number and their love story began. Over the next year, the two would travel back and forth between Memphis and Atlanta, building a bond that grew stronger with every visit. Eventually, DeWayne asked Damika to join him in Atlanta, and with hopes of building a lasting future together, she and her son Dominic made the move. After a little over a year of living, growing, and loving side by side, DeWayne knew he had found his forever and asked Damika to be his wife. It’s no coincidence that Damika & DeWayne chose August 8, 2026 (8/8/26) as their wedding date. The number “8” holds a special symbolism: when turned on its side, it becomes the infinity symbol, a sign of continuous love, eternity, and forever. What began with a missed flight has now become a journey without end… a love that is infinite. Forever. Everlasting!
