James Alexander (Alex) was driving to his brother Austin's house one night and came across a little fawn in the road; uncertain of what to do, he called his mom Alice. The following day his mom reached out to Devynn (expecting a man to pick up the phone); Devynn was already on her way into Greenville to pick up a baby mourning dove that was in need of a rehabber. Devynn drove to the house of Alice and Lenn Norment and was met by Alice at the door. The sense of familiarity shared between two complete strangers talking about wildlife rehabilitation, work life, life in general, Alice's children, Devynn's fur babies etc. like two friends just catching up. A day later Alex found Devynn on Facebook and reached out casually, to check in on the fawn and introduce himself, and talk about his interest in wildlife and wildlife rehabilitation. Devynn's first thought was that she did not have time to take in an apprentice nor did she want to entertain the idea of spending time with someone over 6 years younger than her. A few more days went by Alex continued to make small talk and get to know Devynn; Devynn did her best to entertain the idea of talking to Alex, since Alex's mom was very nice, and Devynn couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity like she had known Alice her whole life. One night a good Samaritan reached out to Devynn about an orphaned fawn they had had for a few days and informed Alex of her plans to go get this fawn the following morning. Alex offered to go with her just for some company, Devynn figured, well why not his mom is an ex-cop for Greenville PD, how harmful can he really be? The following morning Alex met Devynn at her house, and they went to go pick up the fawn. One fawn turned into two by the time the made it to the first one, they spent the day together and talked about life, about likes, dislikes, discussed how both of them were coming out of long term; not very great relationships, talked about kids, about animals, about how each of them where NOT interested in a relationship any time soon and more. From that day together on, Devynn and Alex spent as much time together as they could, trying to keep their distance but at the same time not being able to stay apart. They enjoyed one another's company and the time they were spending together, slowly day by day they were both healing hearts they did not break, they grew close and fell head over heels. From there and a few years of hectic life events: fires, fights, adventures, good memories, bad memories; including the loss of good friend(s), through the chaos and the calm, we are where we are at today! Celebrating the union of two souls as one, in holy matrimony.
At the Tyler Childers concert, during "Lady May," he dropped down to one knee while he was serenading her. She first stated "Are you serious?" As a single tear rolled down her cheek she then smiled and said "HELL YES." And that was the start of this next chapter in their love story!
