How We Met

The Deckhand

Mick was a deck hand for my uncle Heath, he had also been coaching my younger cousins in wrestling for many years. We met one summer at the Hole in the Wall where we were drinking beer, playing kickball, and sitting by the fire. At the time, we wanted nothing to do with each other. Fast forward to the summer after, I decide to move to Anchor Point. Mick was deck handing for Heath again, and this time multiple people were trying to get us together, making us not want to get together at all. It wasn't until i saw Mick around town one day, all we did was smile and say Hi, but in that moment I knew I was going to be with him. It really was a butterfly-like feeling, just like in a movie. Every time I saw him after that i was shy and awkward, very awkward. Just being in the same room with him made me giddy. One day my cousin Heather mockingly said “Micks say hiiiii”. And my response was probably something like “don't lie to me!” Heather wasn't lying, and I then knew that Mick was into me too. So on Mick's birthday I got his number and texted him, (the modern love letter). We spent months messaging each other back and forth before we went on a first date. On that first date it was very clear that Mick and I had a connection that would last.
