I had known I was gonna propose since January of this year and I was going to do it while on our trip to Japan in the spring. However, due to Covid-19 those plans couldn’t happen but I still wanted to propose, Japan or not. So after a little research I discovered a pretty romantic alternative right here in OKC: the lighthouse at Lake Hefner. I entrusted some of my friends and family to help me with the occasion and now I was ready. When the day finally came I made plans with Devyn to meet me at Lake Hefner so we could go “skating.” I arrived early to set up at the lighthouse where I had my friends and family line the path, each holding a single orange lily. I got a message from Devyn that he was parking and I told him to meet me near the lighthouse. From a distance we saw a confused Devyn looking around while holding his roller blades. As he started making his way down the path I hid from his sight behind the light house. Not only to surprise him but also to hide that I was TERRIFIED LOL. Devyn made his way down the path, accepting flowers from some of our closest friends all while still holding those dang skates oblivious to what was happening. As he got to the end of the path I stepped out from behind the lighthouse to hand him the final flower. I took the skates out of his hands and sat them on the ground. As our friends and family huddled around us I looked into his eyes and I said “Devyn, you are the kindest, most wonderful, most interesting person I have ever met. I have never met anyone who makes me feel as comfortable and loved as you do. You’re my bestfriend and I dont think I’ve ever been as happy as how you’ve made me feel these last few years, and I never want that happiness to end.” As the sun set over the still water behind me I got down on one knee and revealed the hidden ring in my hand. “Devyn Michael Kimbrough, will you marry me?” He replied with a smile “Yes I will marry you” He later asked after it was over “so are we still going skating?”🤣
