Washington Ave is just a few blocks from Detroit Lake and is a great spot to spend a little time. It’s an easy, walkable area with a laid-back vibe—perfect for grabbing ice cream, browsing local shops, or heading to a casual dinner. You’ll find everything from small boutiques to Lakeshirts, along with places to pick up last-minute outfits or lake-day essentials.

Mi Cartagena Café is a welcoming local coffee shop inspired by Colombian roots, serving rich, flavorful coffee in a warm and relaxed setting—perfect for a morning pick-me-up or a casual stop while exploring town.

Check out the iconic Zorbaz for pizza and drinks on the lake, or head to nearby Hub 41 for food and drinks.

Trucks & Tunes (Live Music) Aug. 20

5 – 8pm at the Detroit Lakes city park bandshell. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Food trucks and beer garden on site. Free concert – free will donations accepted. If case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved to Bucks Mill Brewing (watch Facebook and website for updates). Hardwood Groove is a Midwest-based band rooted in Detroit Lakes, MN, known for a genre-bending mix of bluegrass, folk, jazz, rock, and Americana.

Walk, Run, Bike!!!

Stretch your legs on the Heartland State Trail or explore Detroit Mountain Recreation Area for biking, hiking, or outdoor fun. You can also go for a scenic run around Detroit Lake—it’s roughly a 10-mile loop.
