In January 2018, Devon asked Marisa out to tacos and margaritas at El Camino. The chemistry was instant and felt like we were best friends that hadn't seen each other in years. At one point, as Marisa was talking about her passions, her characteristic laugh belted out and Devon was hooked. As she continued to dive deeper into the topic at hand, Devon completely zoned out and stared at her when the little spider sense kicked in and said, "This is the girl you're going to marry". Fast forward to the end of the year when we traveled to Puerto Vallarta to celebrate New Years. Our flight got delayed. Sitting in a cafe at 10 PM, Marisa asked "So what are your goals for the new year!?" Devon thought about it for a minute and said, "I'm getting engaged by the end of this year". Marisa was red faced instantly, blushing, and smiled. In April 2019, we decided to drunkenly book a European vacation that charted from Paris to Rome in 10 days. The week before we left for our trip, Devon headed to his friend's jewelry store to buy the ring. On September 30th in Luzern, Switzerland, swans were circling around the boat where we were sitting on the top deck just after breakfast. Marisa was still hungry and was eating a chicken pesto sandwich as Devon, nervous as ever, sat waiting for the opportunity to ask. "So, are you ready for a surprise?" Licking pesto off her teeth in anticipation, Devon pulled the ring box out of his jacket. "Do you want to explore forever together?" As Marisa collected her jaw off the floor, Devon slid the ring on her finger, hoping the answer was eventually going to be "Yes". As her lip finally made it back up to the rest of her mouth, she exclaimed "Babe, is this real? Of course!" We carved our initials into the wooden railing at the top of Mt. Pilatus, cementing the moment and subconsciously planning for when we could return decades later to see where it all started. This is our love story, but it's just the start...
