The Beginning Dev and Luis met at church in the fall/winter of 2018. Pretty quickly they found themselves sharing similar friend groups and serving in similar ministries, but nothing romantic was happening between the two at the time. But for one, a fire was being kindled. For Luis, his love story began sooner than it did for Devon. In September of 2020 Luis approached Devon and confessed his feelings for her. Luis realized that Devon was someone special and someone who genuinely loved and followed Jesus. Luis realized pretty early on that Devon had the qualities he was looking for in a future wife.  So he confessed his feelings to her! However, Devon didn’t share the same feelings and politely turned him down. But their friendship continued to grow throughout the years. Both were involved and serving in similar ministries, Devon and Luis helped lead youth ministry together, went on multiple missions trips, served in the worship ministry together, enjoyed game nights with their friends, had fun playing basketball games, all while just remaining friends. The Start of a Flame Devon and Luis went on a mission trip to El Salvador in August 2023. During their trip, Devon got sick unexpectedly and all throughout that day Luis made sure that Devon was okay. Days in El Salvador are hot. So Luis was making sure she was resting and not over exerting herself. Luis took it upon himself to make sure she was okay and took care of her in the ways he could. The summer of 2023 in El Salvador was a marking moment for Devon. Although what Luis did was simple in caring for Devon, Devon began to realize that the way Luis was caring for her were the marks of the character qualities that are truly valuable in a man. Coming back from the missions trip from El Salvador, things quickly began to change. Back in the States  Coming back from the mission trip, Luis had a rekindled love for Devon meanwhile Devon was realizing for the first time that she had feelings for Luis, too. Although they didn’t pursue a romantic relationship with one another right away, their friendship grew and as time went on Luis wanted to confess his love for Devon once more but he didn’t know how to. As the months passed towards November, Devon was once again being won over by the simple things that Luis was doing. It wasn’t the grand gestures that one would think would win over a woman - it was the sweet, simple things that Luis didn’t even realize! As feelings grew between the two; Luis knew that he would once more have to profess his love to Devon. So he sought wisdom in how to approach her once more. All the while Devon was also FINALLY admitting to her closest friend that Luis was the kind of person she could see herself dating. So Luis decided to be bold an shoot his shot one last time! The Rest As They Say From November- to now- the rest is history. Luis approached Devon on December 10th and invited her on a date to the Trail of Lights. As they got to know each other throughout the month of December, they quickly realized that this relationship was something special and they decided to become official on January 6th, after a fun and romantic train ride to Burnet, Tx. They are now engaged and are more excited than ever to share the rest of their lives with each other! The Best is Yet To Come  It was worth the wait for these two. In the 4 years between Luis first reaching out and confessing his feeling for Devon to now - they have both seen God working in them and changing them for the better. They are grateful to have gotten to know each other over the past 5 years as friends- and are even more grateful now to get to know each other in a sweeter way. God is faithful and He is never late but always right on time. It’s ironic to point out and special to know, that now 4 years later after Luis originally asked Devon out in September of 2020 they will now be getting married 4 years later! God makes everything beautiful in His time!
