On August 24th, in Acton, California, Garrett and I were married! We truly have never been happier. Acton has played a big part of our story and is such a unique place. We couldn't of imagined a better place to start our lives together. With that being said, growing up in 2 different states we have so many people we love and want to celebrate with in both. We feel so blessed that my mom, Lesa, is throwing us a reception in Washington. If you know my mom, you know she knows how to throw a party! Pizza, cupcakes, candy, dancing and YOU. We couldn't dream of a better night!
At 12 years old I was able to come visit my Aunt and Uncle in California for 3 weeks in the summer. During that time they took me to my little cousin Shelby's birthday party. It was a pool party and there were a lot of kids my age there, specifically a blue eyed, blonde haired 11-year-old boy that thought he was the coolest. Maybe I thought he was pretty cute and cool but I wasn't going to show him. At 12(and maybe 28) one could describe me as strong willed, sassy and bossy. I think that Garrett quickly picked up on these qualities of mine. If you know me and have heard our story, you know that I made him cry the first time we met. I only hit him in the ear with a pool noodle(he claims he had an ear infection). From that moment on we were friends. Anytime I was in California we would hang out. Camping trips, magic mountain days, hanging out at his pool or out in Acton. When we were younger and I was in WA we would AIM constantly or be on the phone. We were always just friends but Garrett was never shy to tell me that he wanted more. I thought he was crazy and never wanted to "ruin" our friendship. For the last 16 years I've tortured him with the back and forth of my emotions. I'm so grateful now that he has always been so sure about us. He truly knows me better than anyone and he is obviously a very patient and determined man.
So it all started at this birthday party when I was a young lad. There I was minding my own business, playing with my friends. When this girl I had never seen before came up with a fire in her eyes and a large blunt object and smashed my ear.. that already had and ear infection! It was that moment, I knew she was the one. So I had to invite her to my birthday party the next weekend. Over the years we became much closer friends. Me, having already fallen for her, I always made it known I wanted more but she repeatedly said that she didn’t want to ruin the friendship. Challenge accepted. After years and years of persistence and treating her like the princess that she was I finally wore her down enough to say yes to a date!.... and I canceled to go to a party my friend(who is my best man)was throwing because I told him I would. After convincing her to say yes again. We were dating for a little while and I finally worked up the courage to officially ask her to be my girlfriend. Long story short I made up my mind that Devon was the one for me 16 years ago. It took me a little longer than I originally planned to convince her that I was the one for her too, but I did it! I love this woman with my whole heart and look forward to our future together!
