Taylor's roommate and best friend, Sammi, met Matt through a summer language intensive program at the University of Maryland. Taylor was entering her senior year, and Matt was just fresh out of the Marines going back to school for his degree. When Taylor and Sammi bumped into Matt while studying for finals, they invited him to join their group attending the Santa Claus bar crawl in Dupont Circle - which happened to fall on the day before Matt's birthday. When the day arrived, the group had dwindled down to two, sending Matt and Taylor on a quite unplanned first date!! After spending most of the afternoon bar hopping through Dupont Circle just the two of them, the rest of the group joined the crawl to end the evening together. Maybe Taylor thought Matt looked adorable in his Mrs. Claus turtleneck and sweater vest or maybe Matt really digged Taylor's elf onsie, but one thing led to another and now here we all are at their wedding!
Taylor took a train up to NYC to visit her bestie, Sammi, for a girl's weekend. Little did she know, Sammi and Matt had been plotting the ultimate party crash with a sunset proposal between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges that Saturday evening. Following a morning of bottomless mimosas at brunch, and exploring Manhattan, Sammi led Taylor over to Dumbo for what she thought was a cute photoshoot before dinner. She was shocked when she turned around to her favorite person walking towards her!! Safe to say she was surprised when her response was to mumble something about his haircut and new peacoat... and of course saying YES! Off they went to a pink valentines themed dinner by the water for a quick celebration in the city before heading back to Manalapan where Taylor's parents and siblings were waiting to celebrate!
When you know you know! That's what they say right? Well Matt and Taylor didn't like the fiance title very much - it only lasted 1 month! On March 9, 2023, a small, intimate ceremony was held on the fishing dock at the lake in the couple's college town. Officiated by Taylor's brother, Conor, and surrounded by their parents, siblings, and a few friends, the two were legally married in preparation for Taylor's commissioning into the Navy. Exactly one year later, at Main Street Ballroom, surrounded by all their family and friends, Matt and Taylor will renew their vows on their one year wedding anniversary. So for those of you who were not in the loop - SURPRISE! We are already married, and this first year of marriage will just be way too much fun not to end in the biggest party we've ever thrown.
