Information regarding logistics

Flight

Flights

The closest airport to our venue is Inverness Airport (INV), which is about 15-20 minutes from Achnagairn Estate. There may not be any direct flights from the U.S. to Inverness, but you can easily connect through a few major European hubs. In our experience, flights are limited into Inverness, so flying to Glasgow or Edinburgh may be a better option and then taking a different form of transportation to Inverness.

Travel Note

Taking the Train

If you fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh, there are train stations that will take you to Inverness where you can hire a car, hire a Taxi or possibly take the Bus to the venue. We would recommend taking a Taxi as the venue would only be 15-20 minutes from Inverness (see the local taxi's on the travel page). We took the train from Inverness to Glasgow and it was extremely easy. It was a little over 3 hours and it was safe, comfortable, and scenic. There was Wi-Fi onboard and you can bring your own food & drinks. Our tickets were around ~$55 a piece. We highly recommend taking the train. Utilize ScotRail (Web or App) to plan your travels. You can get to nearly every part of Scotland via Train.

Travel Note

Taking the Bus

There are various bus options that you can take to get around Scotland. We took the bus from the highlands to Glasgow previously and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The bus is generally shorter than the train and for the longer treks, your luggage can be stored underneath the bus (depending on the bus). The tickets are affordable and the seats are quite comfortable. There are some bus routes where pre-booking tickets would be preferred, however, for intra-city routes, you can simply hop on busses and pay on the bus via apple pay or Tap (if your card has that option). We utilized Apple Maps and then clicked on "bus" as our transit type, and it provided the Bus stop you needed to be at, the time of the next bus, and the different routes / busses that applied. For short trips, busses or taxi's are the way to go, however, for long trips or traveling with luggage, it may be less comfortable and a train would be more suitable.

We stayed here last November and really enjoyed it. Clean and convenient - across the street from the central bus station and train station. Plus, really close to shops and nightlife.
