Devin and Nash met while working an event at the Portland Japanese Garden called O'Tuskimi, Moonviewing. Devin was the event coordinator at the garden and Nash worked for the restaurant providing the food. Nash strategically provided Devin with never-ending mushroom skewers over the three day event, and the rest was history.

After a long-haul road trip from Portland to Indianapolis, Nash and Devin made a stop at the Grand Canyon. As they walked along the canyon rim, a California Condor swooped down into the canyon. Devin is fascinated with Condors and she was momentarily distracted. When she turned around, Nash was on one knee and asked her to be his wife.
