It all started back in May 2019, at our very first work meeting for the Madison School and Community Recreation's Adapted Golf Program. We were both there to help others — and ended up finding something pretty special ourselves. Devin spotted Katie across the room and thought she was cute. That same night, he took a leap and slid into her DMs, asking her out on a date. (Spoiler alert: it worked.) By July 2019, we made it official. At the time, Devin — a La Crosse, Wisconsin native — was wrestling for the University of Wisconsin, balancing academics and athletics. Katie, who had made her way up to Madison from the Chicago suburbs, was working hard in undergrad — juggling jobs and studying her butt off to chase her dream of becoming a physical therapist. In May 2020, as the world slowed down, our little family grew with the adoption of our sweet pup Cora. The three of us spent lockdown together in Katie’s apartment in Madison, making the most of it — including a very intimate (and unforgettable) 21st birthday party for Katie with two close friends and, of course, Cora as the guest of honor. We shared two wonderful years together in Madison before life took us in different academic directions. Katie headed back to the Chicago area to attend Northwestern University for her Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and Devin moved twelve hours away to Northern State University in South Dakota to pursue his Master’s in Sport Performance and Administration — where he also continued his wrestling career. Cue long-distance mode: countless FaceTimes, tiny airplane flights, and reunions that made every mile worth it. After graduating in May 2024, we were ready for our next chapter — and as luck would have it, life brought us back together again. Devin accepted a coaching position at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and Katie joined a private practice just 30 minutes away in Dyersville. We moved into our first apartment together and made it home, with Cora always by our side. In March 2025, our family grew again with the rescue of our second dog, Winston — a little chaos, a lot of love. And finally, on July 5th, 2025, Devin proposed on the pier at Katie’s family’s lake home in Green Lake, Wisconsin — surrounded by close family, the water, and all the happy tears. Now we’re here — celebrating everything that’s brought us to this moment. We can't wait to say “I do” with all of you by our side.
