Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Eva Mrak-Blumberg and Dev Mauch
Welcome to Norway, Maine! A few fun facts about this town: Originally called Rustfield, it was renamed Norway due to a clerical error, not Scandinavian settlers. Townspeople intended to name the town "Norage" (meaning "falls" in Abenaki), but a clerical error at the state level resulted in "Norway". (Ha! Mainers) In 1878, A.M. Dunham began producing snowshoes, making the town a hub for manufacturing in North America. The Tubbs Snowshoe Company also originated here in 1906. Situated in Western Maine (Oxford County), known for its mountainous terrain and proximity to several lakes, including Lake Pennesseewassee. The population is approximately 5,000–5,200 residents. Why we love it: Not only did we choose this location because it housed our dream venue--we've been coming to this town for years and falling in love with it each time! We love the historic downtown, small business shops on main street, and beautiful hiking and skiing nearby. We think you'll fall in love with it too.

Oxbow Brewing Company - Oxford (Beer Garden)

420 Main Street, Oxford, ME 04270

This place rules! Great food (amazing pizza), Belgian style beers, great outdoor space in good weather. Fun fact: this Oxbow location was once the home of one of our wedding guests' family!

Norway Brewing Company

237 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

We enjoyed a beer here with our friends Cam and Christine in the early years of our time in Maine and after one of our first experiences xc skiing!

Katherine's Bakery & Cafe

248 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

We've heard great things about their baked goods. Good lookin' breakfast sandwiches too!

Cafe Nomad

450 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

Bakery and coffee shop with many vegetarian and vegan options and local art on the walls.

Boomers

107 Lake Road, Norway, ME 04268

Exactly what you imagine for a dive bar from the 70s in small town Maine with zero upgrades. I wouldn't go for the food, but if you can grab a beer at noon and sit on their deck over the water, that's a good afternoon in our book.

Noyes Mountain Trailhead

84 Richardson Hollow Road, Greenwood, ME 04255

Take advantage of these beautiful foothills! Norway ME is known for it's beautiful hiking and vistas.

Mount Tire'm Trailhead (Daniel Brown Trail)

18 Plummer Hill Road, Waterford, ME 04088

For those of you who want to tire'm legs out before or after the wedding with a short but sweet hike with views.

Fiber & Vine

402 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

Calling all ye' knitters and crafters! This spot is the mecca for you.

Widdershins Antiques

329 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

This place is an absolute favorite of ours. We've found many a treasure in this place. The owner is very knowledgeable and the prices are fair. The owner is always there and has great info on a lot of the items he's selling, so don't hesitate to ask questions!

Dolce Amici

427 Main Street, Norway, ME 04268

Get your ice cream on! Also a good option for breakfast (Saturday only!)

Pennesseewassee Beach

Norway, ME 04268

For those of you looking to swim (it'll still be chilly!) or to launch a small water craft, this is a great spot to launch from and explore this beautiful Maine lake. (For those of you looking to fish, head on over to the town fishing dock--that's literally what it's called).

Lake Pennesseewassee Park

46 Waterford Road, Norway, ME 04268

Great place for your children or dogs to run around before you get ready for the wedding and the sitter arrives : )
