Daniel and I met through a mutual friend at a high school basketball game. We hit it off and started talking for quite some time, but we were young and dumb and didn’t make anything out of it. Sadly, we ended up going our separate ways. Fast forward almost 4 years during my college sophomore year winter break. I came home from college and decided to go out to a friend gathering. Daniel and I hadn’t seen each other or talked since we both went our separate ways in high school, but we just so happen to finally cross paths again at this gathering. Me, not thinking anything of it, showed up to this gathering in sweatpants, sweatshirt, barely any make up, and my hair in a messy bun. As soon as I showed up, there Daniel was. I instantly regretted my chocie of appearance. Our eyes locked and we knew we were in trouble (not really), and the rest is history! Since that night, we talked daily and I spent the rest of my break with him before I had to go back to college and he had to return to the Oil Rigs.
It was a Sunday morning and Daniel told me he had a birthday present sent to my parents house, so I wouldn’t snoop around and find it. An hour goes by, so I decided to start to clean the house. I swept and cleaned the floors and he still wasn’t back. So I turned on music and started my next task, which was to vacuum. He came home and I had no idea, since I couldn’t hear over the vacuum and music. Daniel came home with a yellow lab puppy. He set up his phone so he could record me seeing our new puppy and him popping the question. Well...that didn’t work. He stood there for about 10 minutes just waiting...and waiting...poor guy. He decided he had to ditch the phone and come find me. Again, I was busy vacuuming and listening to music. He whistled to get my attention. I turned around and saw him holding a puppy! I asked him “why do you have our friends dog?” He told me it wasn’t. I instantly started crying...”you got me a puppy?!” I WAS ECSTATIC! I went straight to him and grabbed the precious puppy and started snuggling instantly. He then told me to look at her collar and check out her name, which I ignored because I was so content snuggling. He repeated himself and I told him to wait, the snuggles were too good! The ring was on the collar....and I was not budging! So he took the collar off and said it was too big for her and that he had to adjust it. I still was not phased and perfectly content crying with puppy snuggles. I then realized he was dropping down on one knee. I couldn’t breathe! Was this really happening?! Then the tears REALLY started flowing. I said yes, and he put the ring on my finger...then I asked him if it was okay if I sat down! I was shaking! Did this really just happen? So many emotions were overcoming me. So there we sat together, in the hallway of our first home snuggling our first puppy, and we were ENGAGED! Although I derailed the way he was hoping it would turn out, it was imperfectly perfect and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
