Our Story

From Holey Moley to Holy Matrimony

Ian discovered Shekinah’s Instagram profile through the Explore page and given her genuine love for the LORD and her striking beauty, he was immediately intrigued and intent on pursuing her. However, before he was able to see her Instagram username, the page timed out. Several months later, her profile reappeared, and Ian immediately followed her. After liking and commenting on one of her ministry videos, Shekinah responded and followed Ian back. Not long after discovering that she also lived in Houston, Ian sent her a direct message asking her out for coffee. The message initially went to her hidden requests so she didn’t see it for a while, and although Shekinah kindly declined, she was gracious in her response. Over the next two months, they commented on each other’s posts, and Ian occasionally replied to her stories. He kept the conversations focused on the content she shared rather than on his interest in her. Then, unexpectedly, Shekinah sent Ian a message asking whether he would still be interested in meeting for coffee; turns out, Ian had stayed on her mind from the first time he reached out. Ian enthusiastically replied yes, sent her his phone number, and suggested a time, date, and location. A coffee date was scheduled for that Saturday. Although Shekinah was excited, she was also nervous and cancelled the date. Over the next two months, they continued liking and engaging with each other’s posts. Ian intentionally liked one of her older posts—a subtle way of letting her know she was still on his radar. The following day, Shekinah texted Ian to ask whether he was still interested. He absolutely was. They finally met in person for dinner at Traveler’s Table, and the attraction and alignment were immediate and unmistakable as they talked for hours without a single lull in conversation. After learning that Shekinah loved mini golf, arcades, Chinese food, and the history of the Bible, Ian planned their second date at a popular mini-golf venue called Holey Moley. It was there that they fell in love. After an hour and a half of golfing with non-stop laughs, followed by a three-hour conversation about Jesus, Christian values, and biblical perspectives on relationships, their connection and alignment was undeniable. They had a third date that lasted 12 hours- from the Bible museum to lunch in China town, then talking for hours on the steps outside the restaurant, stopping by an arcade and then sitting by the lake talking for a few more hours- and both would agree it was still too short! (PS: did you notice that the 3rd date Ian planned was full of Shekinah’s favorite things? How sweet!) Then, on October 22, 2025, Shekinah invited Ian to join her for the sunrise at Memorial Park. She let him know that she was fully confident in where this connection was going, and that she felt the peace of the Lord on it. So just eleven days after meeting in person for the first time, their relationship officially began. Many people considered the timeline fast, but few considered that biblical alignment rarely coincides with worldly expectations. Ian and Shekinah continued to love, encourage, and sharpen one another while serving together at church and pursuing the LORD with the shared commitment of keeping Him at the center of their relationship. Seven months after their first date, Ian reserved a private room in 51fifteen Cuisine & Cocktails adorned with flowers and photographs capturing special moments throughout their relationship. There, in the Tulippe Room, he proposed to Shekinah with a poem—and she said YES! From a hidden message request to a saved contact in his now-fiancée’s phone, Ian and Shekinah often say, “You had me at Holey Moley.” Now, they look forward to having each other in Holy Matrimony.
