Our Love Story
How We Met
Once upon a bottle of Belair… Unlike the fairy tales, we read as kids, Donte and Destiney's love story would not start with him sweeping her off her feet. It would begin with Donte turning down Destiney's request to share his coveted bottle of Belair with her and her friends, ha! Who knew that humble beginning would eventually develop into a transformative friendship and ultimately turn into where they are today… From this one-chance meeting at a kickback of their mutual friends, Donte and Destiney remained in each other's lives, even if not intentionally. As the tale continues, Destiney meets Donte again, years later, at the Harbor's Harrington's bar. Although their accounts of that night differ drastically (lol), here's the gist… Before the night was over, Donte and Destiney exchanged numbers, but not before he "rescued" Destiney from the parking deck because she couldn't figure out how to get out (sounds about right). Was Destiney playing the damsel in distress? or was it fate?
Go Best Friend, That's My Best Friend!
From that night at the Harbor, Destiney and Donte became close friends. Good morning texts were sent regularly, and FaceTime calls were a must. They got along exceptionally well and spent lots of time together, cheering for their favorite team on Sundays, which is a tradition they proudly hold to this day. Donte and Destiney quickly realized their connection was natural in a way that they had never experienced before. Destiney began to understand the depth of their friendship when she started to pursue a career in New York. Like any true friend, Donte was supportive and encouraged her to follow her dreams. Within three months, Destiney made her way to The Big Apple, and Donte was shocked by how small the DMV area felt without her larger-than-life presence.
The Big Move
The two continued to build their relationship from afar. Donte knew a move to New York would eventually be in the cards for him. Many people wondered why they remained in a long-distance relationship for so long, but Destiney and Donte knew they were both where they needed to be in that season. And then it happened, Donte packed his bags to start a new chapter with Destiney. They no longer had countless highways and tolls standing between them as before. They were finally home in a place they called their own – Harlem, NY. Donte's transition to New York reminded them of why they had initially fallen for each other. They were able to have fun without any additional effort. All they needed was each other.
The Rest is History...
Donte taught Destiney how to be fearless and to show up for herself in the way that she so naturally showed up for others. Destiney taught Donte how to love and what it means to live in a way that honors someone else's feelings. On August 29th, 2020, Donte asked Destiney to spend a couple of forevers together in front of their family and friends. Of course, she said yes. And so, their beautiful love story continues!
