In February 2024, Desmin was hit while biking to their young adults Bible study. The driver fled the scene and left him with four fractures and a TBI. A couple weeks into recovery, Kaela caringly offered (with no ulterior motives) to drive him to church or doctors appointments. Des graciously accepted, and while they had only been loosely acquainted for the year and a half prior, the car rides gave them an opportunity to know each other better. After three weeks, Des worked up the courage to ask this hottie to coffee and the rest is history! God healed Des from all four fractures in just six weeks, with no residual symptoms or complications since. They started dating that March and he excitedly proposed on May 17th, 2025!
