How We Met

They say the best things happen when you least expect them, and for DeSirer and Jaimonie, that couldn’t be truer. It all started on September 12, 2019, at Dillard University—though the universe had different plans for DeSirer that day. As someone who prides herself on being organized, she was "pretty sure" she knew where she was going... until she found herself sitting in the wrong class for a tutoring session. Naturally, she panicked internally while trying to look cool. But it wasn’t all bad—because sitting nearby was Jaimonie, who noticed her confusion and couldn't resist a smile. Was it fate? An academic blunder? Either way, it sparked an instant connection. After class, Jaimonie offered to help point DeSirer in the right direction (since she clearly needed it). That small gesture turned into a conversation, and that conversation turned into hours of laughing about shared interests, future goals, and even an ongoing debate about who is funnier. Spoiler alert: they *still* haven’t agreed on that one. Over the next few years, their friendship grew deeper. They studied together, laughed, and, of course, attended plenty of campus events—sometimes even by accident. Throughout it all, their bond only strengthened, even as life took them on different journeys. There were other partners, graduations, and lots of “what ifs,” but the universe wasn’t done with them yet. Fast forward a few years: after growing both as individuals and as friends, they found their way back to each other. This time, the timing was right, the stars aligned, and everything just clicked. No more wrong classes—just the right person standing in front of them. Now, with a love that’s stronger than ever, DeSirer and Jaimonie are ready to turn their once-accidental meeting into a forever kind of love story. They laugh when they think back to that first day—who knew a little campus confusion could lead to finding their soulmate? So here they are, about to say “I do,” with hearts full of joy, and a shared certainty that they are exactly where they were always meant to be—together.
