When people ask how Ryan and I met, we always feel weird telling people we met on Tinder. As a romantic, I expected to have a rom-com type interaction where we’d bump into each other at a coffee house or something. But no. We both swiped right on a dating app and I’m so glad we did! We started talking in November of 2018 but didn’t meet in person until later that December. Ryan had asked a few times to meet up but I always found a way out because I was too scared to actually meet in person. My sister ended up basically bribing me to go meet Ryan for lunch (thanks Chels 😘) and we hatched an elaborate escape plan if needed. The date obviously went amazingly well and my sister ended up checking in on me to make sure I was okay since she hadn’t heard from me in several hours. Everything after that was a whirlwind. We moved in together quickly, renovated and sold a house, moved into a tiny apartment as the city was shutting down due to COVID, dealt with tremendous loss, drove across the country (twice now!), bought a beautiful new house in Georgia, changed careers, traveled together and now engaged! July 2022 we decided to take a vacation and wanted to travel outside the country since we hadn’t been yet together. With Ry being a surfer, Costa Rica had been on his bucket list. We searched for hotels and ended finding the Jardín Del Eden in Tamarindo. This is where Ryan would propose to me ❤️ Ryan and I knew we were going to get married very early on and even looked at rings. I initially thought perhaps this trip would be when he’d propose, but also knew that Ry wouldn’t likely bring an expensive ring to a foreign country. I also learned that I spoiled the first attempt at proposing the first night we got in. The first night after dinner, Ryan asked the waitress for two glasses of champagne so we could go down towards the pool area and toast to being on vacation together. I didn’t want champagne and wanted to go back to the hotel room and go to bed. Attempt number one foiled. Attempt number two was going to be down at the beach the next day but it started to rain. We walked back up to the room and decided to sit on the terrace daybed. Ryan stopped to get champagne on the way to the room so we could do the toast we didn’t do the night before. As we were sitting on the daybed with champagne, he said he forgot something and he was down on one knee when I looked back 🥰
