Desiree first met Galen during his 6 a.m. anatomy review sessions at Meharry Medical College in 2017. At the time, Desiree was a first-year medical student, and Galen—a second-year student—was known for his dedication to mentoring and tutoring others. What began as a friendly connection soon blossomed into something more when Galen asked Desiree out… to which she replied, “Who else is coming?”—not realizing it was a date! From that moment, their relationship grew as they journeyed through medical school together, both earning their Doctor of Medicine degrees. After graduation, they moved from Nashville, TN to New Haven, CT, with their two pups, Kody and Zoey, to complete residency training at Yale University. Along the way, they have built their community of people from near and far while staying true to their Texas-Bama roots. Galen proposed to Desiree on December 16, 2023 on her birthday in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by family and friends. Following residency, they made their home in Atlanta, GA—where Desiree is completing her Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship and Galen practices as a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician in the metro Atlanta area.
