Derrick and Josh, finding each other TWO separate times on Tinder and matching both of those times, came to be after a date at Buffalo Bayou Park in downtown Houston, TX. Their first date occurred during the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020. The date started off as a casual walk in the park on a cloudy day that soon turned rainy as they walked back to their cars. Agreeing that the conversation they shared just couldn’t be over so soon, Derrick and Josh then decided to order takeout from a restaurant as dine-in options were not available. The two of them met at Derrick’s home where Josh first met Pebbles, Derrick’s Cocker Spaniel (now undeniably Josh’s “baby girl”) and they had dinner, finishing the conversation they had become so invested in. In the weeks that followed, Derrick and Josh decided to make it official and put a label on it! After over 2 years of dating and sharing many mountain-top and valley-low experiences together, Josh proposed to Derrick at the same place they had their first date. Michael, who is Derrick’s best friend since high school (Coach Smith’s class) had a large part in the top-secret planning of the proposal, which Derrick was absolutely surprised by.
