Jimmy and Derrick met at a youth group event in 1999 and instantly bonded over their mutual love for pop punk music. Their tastes in music have changed over the years, but they are still close friends and were even roommates immediately prior to Derrick moving in with Jordan in 2016. Jimmy was tending bar the night Derrick and Jordan met and witnessed their initial meeting!

However, their friendship didn't begin until a year later when Derrick's social awkwardness relaxed juuuust enough to allow him to converse with his peers (occasionally). They then spent the next two years primarily watching and reciting Office Space together.

Thomas and Derrick met in 1987, shortly after Thomas' birth. They have competed with and against each other during many backyard 2-on-2 baseball games over the years, used to hang out on a daily basis for several weeks each summer while growing up, and even attended the Baseball All-Star Game in Seattle together in 2001. They are also brothers.

Due to Jordan's capacity for extremely detailed memory, he knows and remembers (and still frequently retells) more stories about Derrick's hi-jinx as a young man than perhaps even Derrick does.
